Don Jazzy reveals the secret to success and how he built his music empire

Mavin records boss, Don Jazzy has revealed what he reckons to be  the secret to his reign in the music industry, and the reasons why he along with his artistes have built the successful establishment that is the label and their individual brands.

In his own words,

“I think I was born to do this. There are other record labels doing well also but in my research, I don’t think there’s any record label that’s as passionate about the careers of their artistes as much as I am.

"I’m over passionate about my artistes. Until the last man blows, I am not happy, I think about their success before I think about making money, but most labels are always interested in making back the money they’ve invested and making profit. Don’t you ever worry about the money you spend and the possibility of not recouping it.”

 
According to Don Jazzy, to be a successful talent manager, greed is a trait that must be avoided. He gives tested and trusted advice evidenced by the various artistes such as Tiwa Savage, Dr Sid, D Prince, Reekado Banks, Korede Bello and Di'jas careers which he has successfully been able to keep relevant in the industry.

 He further says

“I believe in the talent that God has given me, and I believe I’ll make many more hit songs, so if you believe in what you are doing and you work very hard, money will come. You don’t need to be greedy and expect to make all the money in the world when your artiste is not making money. Sometimes my lawyers tell me the way my artiste contract is set up is wrong because I’m cheating myself with the sharing formula, but I don’t think I’m cheating myself. I think I’m making my artiste very comfortable and in the long run, we’ll be fine because I care more about my name and the glory than the money, but most labels care more about the money than the glory.”

JJC: ‘Why I Adore Kate Henshaw’

Popular music producer cum hit-maker, Abdul Rasheed Bello better known as JJC is famous for his role in the music career of popular African stars such as D’banj and Don Jazzy to mention a few.

Fresh from the release of his new album, JJC is gradually taking his place among the finest Nigerian music stars.

In a chat with ERAVE, the proud father of three who is still single lifted the lids on how much affection he has for Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw. According to him, he was hooked after listening to Kate Henshaw promises for her people during her quest to run for an elective post in the last Nigerian general elections.

In his words, “I saw an article about what she was planning to do for her State if she was given a chance to join the State’s House Of Assembly. She made them a lot of promises and I got hooked. I saw that as quite an inspirational speech, so I approached her and we did a song together which was titled ‘See Us Now’.

When probed further if he has a crush on the actress, JJC swiftly responded, “No! I actually, saw Kate Henshaw’s performance once at a banquet and I thought she would be perfect to pass the message to the people. I like her uniqueness. I have been looking forward to a chance for Nigerian music industry and Nollywood to come together for the common good of the masses. With Kate, I have made that happen.”

PMAN Unveils The ‘Urban Music Festival’

The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, (PMAN) has announced plans of a music festival aimed at celebrating the urban lifestyle of the city of excellence, Lagos State. Billed to hold at Freedom Park, Lagos, the event is slated for October 1, 2015 to mark Nigeria’s Independence day.

The ‘Urban Music Festival’ is billed to have some of Nigeria’s finest music stars such as 2face Idibia, Patoranking, Yemi Alade, Sir Shina Peters, M.I, Dammy Krane, Jesse Jagz, Phyno, Terry G, Sunny Neji, Vector, Illbliss, General Pype, Falz, among several others lined up for the event.

Speaking at a press parley organized to officially unveil plans for the music festival, award winning music star, Sunny Neji said organizers of the event hope to turn it into a yearly one. In his words, “music lovers should expect a great event and what a proper concert should look like. People should look out to enjoying themselves and having maximum fun because it is an event to look forward to and we harbor hopes of turning it into an annual event.”

Also corroborating Sunny Neji, dancehall star cum filmmaker, Baba Dee said the ‘Urban Music Festival’ will cater for the old and young music lovers. “Most of the shows we have in Nigeria are always planned towards the night where we cut out the whole family. This is time for family to bond while celebrating Nigeria’s Independence. We need to support the good values of our country and also celebrate the entertainment industry,” he said.
